Stepping Stones to Inner
Peace:
Know Yourself
- Take
time every day to reflect upon what type of life you want to create
for yourself. Make a list of your goals and dreams and reflect upon
them at least three times per day.
- Try
to live more in the present. When you find yourself dwelling in the
past or worrying about the future, concentrate on what you see, hear,
smell, touch, taste, think and feel NOW!
- Learn
how to meditate using your breath as a focus. Sit on a chair, feet to
ground, spine erect, hands clasped and eyes closed. Take five deep
breaths and begin to focus on the rhythm of your breathing. Say
"In" as you inhale and "Out" as you exhale. If
you become distracted, don’t beat yourself up. Just return to
your focus as soon as possible. THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG WAY
TO MEDITATE.
- You
can also learn how to meditate by simply focusing your attention on a
word or phrase. Try aum (pronounced like ohm) or the Soul Mantra: I am
the Soul. I am the Light Divine. I am Love. I am Will. I am Fixed
Design.
- Observe
yourself several times throughout the day. Note when you feel upset or
angry. Try to figure out why you feel that way. Often we are upset
more about unresolved issues from the past than we are about what is
going on now.
- You
can either REACT to events or you OBSERVE them. However, the more you
observe them, the more detached you become from them.
- We
all have hunches and gut reactions. Begin to take them seriously. When
you begin to honor and to follow your intuition, your life will never
be the same again.
- We
each have an unique perspective on life. Find a way to express what
you think and feel. Journalizing or drawing can help you to release
your creativity. We are all creative beings.
- Begin
keeping a journal by your bed to record your dreams or any significant
insights you receive. We often receive insights while we sleep and
dream that can really help us out if we write them down as soon as we
wake up in the morning.
- The
road to hell is paved with unexamined, negative thought patterns.
